News 2006 Season

Truck Right on the Pace  (Added 11th May)
A new engine sees the team going into the 2006 season on the pace, and indeed led for a couple of laps in the second round at Rockingham on May 7th 2006. However despite the encouraging start the results did not reflect this, a nudge on the front corner during a yellow caused the bonnet to work loose and a spin in the first round destroyed four brand new tyres. In the second round after leading, the bonnet got so loose that several pit stops had to be made to tape the flapping bonnet down, with the catches trying to rip through the fibreglass. Two last places was not the start the team wanted, but at least the #98 Pickup can now race with the Superstars right at the front!
New Team Members (Added 11th May)
The Hawkes Racing team are pleased to say that Short Circuit magazine, JK Mechanical and Topserve Auto’s will continue to sponsor the team for the 2006 season. The team's driver, Antony Hawkins, says: "All three are long term sponsors and without their support we could not go racing."
The team will however see some personnel changes this year as Antony explains: "Anna Whitehead, who is my niece, took and passed her spotter training on Friday and will become my number one spotter taking over from Eugene Farrell who after helping me for 10 years has decided to take some time off. His humour and knowledge will be missed by all the team."
"Anna is the ideal replacement and will do a fantastic job she has been involved in racing all her life having raced junior mini’s (built by my dad) on oval dirt tracks winning many races. I know she is looking forward to her new role within the team."
"John Kerry (JK Mechanical) is taking over from his brother Ian as crew chief. Ian's successful business expansions (Topserve Autos) means he can't commit to the team full time.
John is also looking forward to his new role. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. John loves Pickup Truck Racing and you may well see him behind the wheel in the near future!
Last, but certainly not least, Jonathan Yardley joins the team full time this season after attending some of the rounds last year. Jonathan is taking his engineering degree at Aston University in Birmingham andis looking to gain some knowledge and information from the team to help with his degree. Everyone at the team welcomes him on board. (Courtesy www.pickuptruckracing.com)
