News 2007 Season 2008
Early Season Plans(Added 04 December 2007) The two truck assault on the 2007 Pickup season is now over, with plans already taking shape for 2008. With the Pickups supporting some top series on both the oval at Rockingham and other 'road courses', it has been decided to use the white Pickup on both the oval and the circuits, and paint the black/red truck the same as the white one and use it for show purposes, which proved very successful. Showing
off 2nd Pickup TruckShort Circuit magazine, who also published the 2007 season programmes for Rockingham on behalf of the BRSCC used Antony Hawkins spare Pickup, parking it next to the programme sales unit at Rockingham in August 2007 and it attracted a huge amount of interest amongst not only the fans, but competitors in other series. It was also photographed many times with fans stood next to it. On a Roll (Added 06 November 2007) Antony Hawkins is safe and well after his barrel roll at Brands Hatch on Sunday. It was the last meeting of the season and Antony had started the first race from the back of the field and was delighted with the progress he had made in the #98 Truck. “We elected to start off the back for the first race – I did not want to get in the way of the championship. We’d got a fresh engine in the truck and the set up worked really well in the first race – I was really pleased with a top ten finish. We decided to go into the front part of the grid for the second race and again it was all going well until Martin Heath had a spin at Clearways. Pickup racing is always so close and I couldn’t avoid him. Take off didn’t happen straight away – the front left wheel dug into the gravel and from then it went to the barrel roll – right up into the air and then down on the roof!” “Essentially all the damage is panel damage and we were thinking of replacing them all for next season in any case. Sonny (Howard) did say afterwards that we’d have to now!! Actually there was one panel that looked OK so I kicked that one just to complete the job.” “I’m a bit sore this morning but otherwise OK so please thank everyone who has asked about me. We’ll be back again next season.” Antony’s roll is the first one in the formula for over ten years. Pickup Truck Racing’s first ever race winner Pete Chambers barrel rolled his Truck at Mallory Park back in 1997. If proof were needed back then that the chassis could stand up to such antics then bear in mind that that particular machine went on to win two championships in the hands of Lee Caroline.
