News 2008 Season
Team Rockingham Transporter(Added 23 March 2008) Team Rockingham have just finished the transporter in Rockingham colours, complete with a large advert for the touring car meeting at the rear. Opening Round at Brands Preview (Added 15 March 2008) Team Rockingham will be on the starting grid for the first round of the 2008 Pickup Truck Championship when the new season gets under way on Easter Monday. Twenty-one drivers have entered the opening round of the prestigious 10-meeting racing series being held at Brands Hatch - including Rockingham-backed Antony Hawkins. The 42-year-old former Hot Rod champion will be running in the colours of the Northamptonshire circuit in his #98 Rockingham liveried truck as part of a season-long sponsorship deal. As part of the package Antony will receive vital track time and will promote driving days at Rockingham, where members of the public can get behind the wheels of a range of authentic racing cars. Antony will be making special appearances at selected events including the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham on April 12/13, to promote the circuit’s four pickup races. Antony hopes to be among the leading pack challenging current champion Steve Dance and his main rivals Nic Grindrod and Gavin Seager, who are all bidding to win their third title. “The opening round of a new season is always very exciting as everyone is full of optimism and raring to go,” said Antony, “although we are quietly confident, we know to achieve success this season there is still a lot to do. This is the first time we have had the opportunity to sport our new Team Rockingham colours and we hope to get off to a great start.” The championship will be held at circuits across the UK, which includes four meetings at Rockingham. The series comes to the Northamptonshire circuit on April 19/20, May 25/26, July 12/13 and September 27/28. Meet Team At Asda Added 15 February 2008 Visitors to one supermarket in Corby were able to pick up a copy of the 2008 Rockingham racing calendar along with their groceries. Team Rockingham were parked up at Asda on the Phoenix Parkway to promote this year’s motorsport events being held at the circuit. As well as collecting their free racing calendar, shoppers also had the opportunity to check out the competitive purpose-built 230bhp Number 98 Team Rockingham pickup truck. Rockingham’s Director of Sales & Marketing Charlotte Orton, said: “We’re very passionate about motorsport and about making it accessible to fans. This is the ideal opportunity for the local community to see what an excellent facility they have on their doorstep. Sponsor for 2008(Added 01 February 2008) Rockingham circuit has pledged its full support for the 2008 Pickup Truck Championship racing series by sponsoring one of its drivers. Antony Hawkins will be representing Team Rockingham in the Number 98 truck throughout the prestigious 10-meeting championship, which starts at Brands Hatch in March. As part of the sponsorship package the 42-year-old from Sutton Coldfield, will receive vital track time and will promote the Northamptonshire circuit throughout the season in a special liveried Rockingham truck. Rockingham is delighted to continue its support of local drivers following its successful partnership of British Touring Car Championship driver Nick Leason last season. Charlotte Orton, Director of Sales & Marketing at Rockingham, said: “Since Rockingham opened in 2001, pickup truck racing has been a permanent fixture in the circuit’s racing calendar. He claimed the 2001 Outlaw Hot Rod crown before moving into pick-up truck racing in 2004. Antony added: “I am absolutely delighted to be working with Rockingham, and appreciate their fantastic support of both myself and the pickup truck racing series. I have been racing at Rockingham since 2004, and have always enjoyed it on the oval. It is an excellent circuit and one of the UK’s best facilities for both competitors and fans.” The 2008 Pickup Truck Championship will be held at circuits across the UK, which includes four meetings at Rockingham.
